“I provide excellent, compassionate and appropriate care.”

– Dr. Ryan Viets

Biography

Dr. Viets was born in Greenlawn, New York.  He attended Dartmouth College in New Hampshire and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics, with a minor in German.  He then attended medical school at the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles.  Upon graduation in 2006, Dr. Viets began his internship in Internal Medicine at the White Memorial Medical Center in Los Angeles.  Subsequently, he returned to New York City to complete his residency in Diagnostic Radiology at the Beth Israel Medical Center, which is now affiliated with Mount Sinai.

Following his residency, Dr. Viets completed advanced training in Diagnostic Neuroradiology and Endovascular Surgical Neuroradiology at the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology, which is located on the campus of Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.

He has been in private practice in San Diego since 2013.  Dr. Viets specializes in the endovascular treatment of diseases of the brain and spinal cord.   As a founding member of CCNS, Dr. Viets focuses his practice on neurointerventional surgery, a minimally invasive, endovascular approach utilizing microcatheters (tiny tubes) to embolize (close) or recanalize (open) abnormal vessels of the brain and spine.  He has extensive experience using Flow Diversion for the treatment of Intracranial Aneurysms.

“I chose to become a physician, because I wanted to be part of the solution to complex medical problems, and believed that by using my innate abilities, I could make a difference in patients’ lives.”, says Dr. Viets.  “I feel that good patient care requires excellent communication between patient and physician. I work together with my patients to develop a treatment plan that is not only appropriate, but also incorporates the thoughts and concerns of the patient. I am almost always available to my patients by telephone after our clinic visit, should any new questions or issues arise.”

In his free time, Dr. Viets enjoy skiing, mountain biking and running, as well as spending time with his wife and children.
